fall detection and no motion - explained

Blackline's G7 devices are equipped with the ability to detect if a user has fallen (fall detection) or is motionless for a period of time (no motion). These features can be turned on, off and customized from G7's configuration profile in Blackline Live.

FALL DETECTION

How does fall detection work?

G7 is equipped with an accelerometer and gyroscopes, meaning it looks for movement and tilt, to be able to detect if a user has fallen. Blackline has an advanced algorithm that uses a combination of acceleration and movement in different directions to detect true falls. We've tested this against real falls, rather than just testing against g-force movement.

How does Blackline attempt to avoid false alerts?

In an attempt to avoid false alerts for detected falls, our true fall algorithm on G7 will not trigger a pending fall detected alarm if it were to only see vertical or horizontal impact. This is to help manage and prevent false alerts from users who may be jumping off trucks, or similar activities, during their daily shift.

Our data analytics team has also run many reports and done research on setting intelligent defaults for the fall detection feature to limit nuisance alarms that users will see.

How should i configure this in blackline live?

The fall detection feature can be customized from G7's configuration profile in Blackline Live.

If you are doing more physical tasks during your every day shift, such as jumping off machinery, Blackline suggests increasing your fall impact to avoid false alerts. If you are doing less physical tasks, such as desk work, Blackline suggests decreasing your fall impact to detect lighter falls.

NO MOTION

How does no motion work?

G7 is equipped with gyroscopes and an accelerometer to determine if a user has stopped moving. In the case that G7 doesn't detect movement for the no-motion period (configured in Blackline Live and explained in this article below), the device will send a yellow pending alarm to ask if the user is OK.

How does blackline attempt to avoid false alerts?

In order to attempt false no motion alerts, Blackline gives users the opportunity to configure their settings in the Blackline Live portal. This allows G7 to be customizable to understand what types of movement it will be seeing in your every day shift. Blackline also trains users to never leave G7 unattended while powered on in order to avoid false no motion alerts.

Our data analytics team has also run many reports and done research on setting intelligent defaults for the no-motion feature to limit nuisance alarms that users will see.

How should I configure this in blackline live?

The no motion feature can be customized from G7's configuration profile in Blackline Live.

The no motion period determines how long the device will sense no movement for before asking you if you are OK.

The movement slider determines the movement G7 will sense. If you are moving less in your daily activities, such as sitting at a desk or driving truck, Blackline suggests decreasing the slider to detect lighter movement. If you are doing physical activities and moving lots during your shift, Blackline suggests increasing movement so to detect heavier movement during your shift.
